CDC Dandy Clock Para

Recommended Posts

Why Dandy Clock? Well this fly always reminds me of the tiny seeds that blow from Dandelions and are dispersed by the wind - they're really light and land very gently...What's the time Mr Wolf?.... That's exactly what this is designed to do... for when the fish are really twitchy.

It's very simple. Tie the fly with a post in exactly the same way you would for a klinkhamer etc. Instead of tying in a cock hackle, just spin cdc fibres in the thread and make the parachute hackle. Keep each wrap under the next and whip finish beneath the hackle. I'm using 14/0 sheer here - any thicker and the hackle will force upwards.

A great pattern for those tricky days.

Hope you like it ;)

With a name like that, it has got to be good! :D :j_k: (just kidding)

Wow, I really like this one! This pattern looks like it would be deadly on even the pickiest fish. Beautifully tyed.

Thanks folks.

Agreed Roy. They do work nicely as a pale watery imitation. I tend to use them when the fish a very picky. When they're 'on' I prefer a usual hackle for longevity - the cdc just gives a more delicate presentation.

Very nicely done Dave, that has to be one of the most subtle flies I've seen this year.

I imagine that the one in the pic is a 12 or 14, but it looks like it could be done down to an 18 with all the obvious colour variants.

It's a clean, simple gossamer like pattern that cannot fail to catch. A real Barnes Wallace type pattern - "simplicate & add lightness"

Thanks John. Praise indeed, and much appreciated.

The one pictured is a #14, but as you say they can be taken bigger or smaller. One other advantage of the cdc is being able to trim it a little and remove straggling fibres. This allows you to get a good proportion of the hackle even with spun fibres.
