ronmille 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 Does anybody glue hackle to parachute post instead of whip finishing it to hook?
Hot Tuna 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 Yup...Dick Talleur has a good explanation of how to do it on his site.....makes for a very durable fly. I like using the thinner Zap A Gap for this. I ran a poll in here a while back and the glue off is definitely a less used method.
RoyalWulff 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 I like it. But that said it makes a very stiff post, which I tend not to like very much,
Silver Doctor 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2008 I like to run a bit of glue on the tying thread. Holds solid without the post stiffening.
Chase Creek 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2008 I'm a gluer. I'm also diabetic, so I have a ready supply of syringes that I use to get the glue into the base of the post. This keeps me from puting too much glue on, which wicks up the post, making it very stiff. Two cautions if you use this method - 1. DON'T use someone elses syringes. 2. These puppies are SHARP. If you go to your local pharmacist and explain what you want them for, you can probably buy some.
JackScott 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2008 I have done it,and if done VERY carefully, works quite well. The only drawback to it,it that for it to be truly effective, the hackle MUST hang under tension against the post until the CA is completely dry. This actually takes the better part of 5 minutes....CA is only "instant" on certain substances, and fur and feathers are not in the group!! Last year,I tied all my parachutes with glued hackle, and none of them have come apart yet! Jack
