Undertow 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2008 I found some small diameter yarn in a couple different colors and I want to use it for tying. So what kind of flies can I tie with it. Im thinking maybe some trout flys and maybe some smallmouth flys. Any ideas? Undertow

northernsolo 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2008 well you could possibly tie a number of different flies depending on the color of the yarn you have, and if you have other materials with it. i have seen brown trout cought on a piece of red thread on a hook. chris
rockworm 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2008 Undertow Polly Rosborough and Lee Wulff both used wool yarns for the bodies of some of their trout flies. Yarn is also used in a great many traditional salmon flies and streamers.
CM_Stewart 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2008 Small diameter yarn in a couple different colors is just what you need to weave some Polish nymphs. They are a little tricky at first, but they are very effective, and worth the effort to learn. http://flyguysoutfitting.com/wovenpolishnymph.html Also tie some killer bugs. Frank Sawyer, the originator of the pheasant tail nymph, first tied them with a yarn that is no longer available, but other yarns in other colors will also work. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkg8IFimg9A
