The fly you fish with confidence

Recommended Posts

for trout in stream, pond, or lake, my confidence fly is a #8 or #10 black/grizzly woolly worm with a red yarn tail- the tail is nothing more than a very short tuft even with the hook bend. Unweighted, weighted, or bead head, depending on conditions.

For LMB, a large #2 woolly bugger with long hackle tail in black/olive is my favorite. For SMB usually a minnow-colored Clouser.

Too many species and conditions to pick just one favorite!!

I'll go with a foam spider, usually black body with chartreuse legs, most of the time when all else fails. I also like a Clouser minnow for this situation, too.

I've caught the most fish on a bead head prince nymph cast up stream and let sink and dragged along the bottom. Oh and a black woolly bugger after dark comes in a close second.

Hetero-Genus Nymph? DHise, is your fly posted on this site? I'm always looking to try something new here in Pennsylvania.

Yes. I responded to your thread.

Thanks.

For trout a soft hackled pheasant tail. For redfish in the summer - Dupre's Gold Spoon, in the winter Borski's Slider.

For most of my fishing (rainbow trout and brown trout) I tie on a Chili Pepper the first thing I do... BEFORE everything else start failing. :P
