the saltydog 0 Report post Posted January 1, 2009 Here is what I tied today, its called a snowfly and is a size 22. Supposedly its the hot fly to use in the winter here in SE Pa. Its my first time tying a wonder wing, I think its pretty cool and will try some more tomorrow in a BWO on a more reasonable sized hook.
E. Oregon Midge 0 Report post Posted January 1, 2009 I love the reverse action flies like the BOOBIE. Use sinking line and when you strip, the fly dives, when you pause it floats. I tie Gartside Gurglers and love the way they produce, but a streamer? Well I came up with this. It floats real well and again it is fished with a sinking line. Super killer with LOCO FOAM. Also experimenting with Nymphs and Wets and new material: joni Some great tying :headbang:  salty great snow fly  gpt awesome work Rocky

JakeGerardKud 0 Report post Posted January 1, 2009 I know that these are all freshwater patterns, but I have been tying a few saltwater streamers. I am waiting on the rest of my materials in the mail. So, here is my first shot at a mackerel pattern. It's about 5" long tied on a 3/0 Mustad. Belly: Natural polar bear Lateral line: Silver crystal flash, Grizzly and white saddles Back: Blue bucktail, and peacock herl. I used the technique where you tie the hair forward first, spin it around the hook shank and then tie it back. I forgot what this technique is called. Joni 0 Report post Posted January 1, 2009 hey east oregon midge what kind of vice are those gurglers on, I have seen them before but didn't know the name? It is a Vosseler. One side is for midges and the other for nymphs and streamers down to #2 The midge is like regular jaws, but the streamer side is a hole. Holds really well.
