flyfishernz 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 Hey guys, here's my first fly on here It's obviously a Royal Wulff. I have used a synthetic material instead of white calf tail, as I find it floats far better. I'm 16 and have only started tying. Constructive criticism is certainly welcome
Hillbillyredear 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 Nice looking fly and I have to agree with you. I too use Antron for my parachute patterns because it does seem to float better. Dart 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 I was bored with Royal Wulffs, so I refused to tie any tonight. I wanted to tie a soft hackle, but I didn't know what to tie... this was the result. I could have put an extra turn or two on the head as it's unfinished. And upon closer examination, I could have picked a better partridge feather... regardless, I like how shiny it is! sz 16 1xl with UTC XSM tinsel and Lagartun X-Fine oval tinsel. I think it's a little too long. The hackle should be about 1.5x the hook gape and the wing should be 2x the gape. I tried to edit the picture in Photoshop to show the proper proportions, but the program is acting wonky. I'll try again later.
flyfishernz 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 Yeah, I knew it was slightly too long. I only had my bad hackle material left, I have to go buy some more

Ridleyffo 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 Just tying some Salmon flies for the comming Salmon fishing season i the northern part of Norway. DK Fly That's a fish catcher. Nice to see a "hard working" everyman's type of salmon fly. :headbang: Great colors for even my oft too frequent humble stockies.
Ridleyffo 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 What on earth did you use as body material? it looks Great and very lifelike!!! Claudia, it is not one I tied, but part of a set submitted to Flytier's Page by a Stateside tier. The case on this Cased Caddis is material from the waste troll - bits of deer hair, flashabou, peacock herl, buits of assorted fluff and dubbing - inserted in a dubbing loop, twisted, wrapped and trimmed roughly to shape. Up close looks pretty impressive, I think Here is another from the same set Cheers, Hans W Hans is that cased caddis waste just dubbed on or some other technique? Hillbillyredear 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 Here is the pic with the legs added I also tried another Don’t have a name for this one yet. I made it up as I went. Turned out pretty cool. I spun different colors of deer hair than trimmed it down like a popper and made the head with grey sculpin wool and added red damsel eyes. I will be adding rubber legs to it also. I forgot to do that tonight. I will post a new pic when I add them. Tied 4 each of the Parachute Sulfurs and white and black Parachute Midges.
