Futzer 0 Report post Posted January 26, 2009 Hey STF, might want to stash the feathers in a ziplock bag in the freezer for a week or so, just to make sure you did not bring home other visitors. Cheers, Futzer.
Val Schmaus 0 Report post Posted January 26, 2009 One of the pleasure's one gets from the art of flytying is being creative and designing or improving new or old patterns.Wild turkey feathers make very "buggy"looking nymphs and other subsurface flies.I use them for hellgramite patterns, tailing for nymphs and wets, wing cases etc.As mentioned, the wings can be used for muddlers or they can be dyed for other patterns. The sky's the limit.Good tying. Put em in the freezer first! The other thing is. Depending on where you live you could make a quick buck selling them to Rodeo guys. bull riders and Bronc riders are always looking for nice turkey Feathers for thier hats....I know I always did! Have fun tying!
searsportshuffle 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2009 I have tied up a bunch of pheasant tail nymphs using the tail feathers from a Gobbler I bagged last spring. It works well. Muddlers are a good call too.

smalltownfisherman 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 Thank you all for the great advice. :headbang: Will I have to put those feathers in the freezer? Because the dead turkey was out in below 0 temperatures for 2 days. Just wondering. Smalltownfisherman.
the saltydog 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 first off, I would put those in the freezer for a few weeks to kill any bugs so you don't infest your other materials. Then start tying muddlers and soft hackles with folded wings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
