Frogfish 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2009 Hey all! Since I'm graduating high school this year, I thought it would be cool to go on a road trip this summer. So me and Leslie, my girlfriend, talked it over, and we settled on BC. I know we have a couple BC members on here...if anyone could help point us in the right way, that'd be great. I'd love to explore the mountains in search of cutts and bull trout. I was also thinking of some king salmon action on the rivers, maybe the Skeena system? Thanks

Thanks Frgogfish I'm no expert but do some digging. BC and a number of streams were pretty restrictive with regards to non residents and I've read some things recently that they may be getting even more restrictive. That not to say you cant toss a fly on some streams, but you better make sure of the requirements and be prepaired to pay a pretty penny depending on streams/riers or some such. Hopefully others will chime in with more knowledge. My 2c. I love the west, you might want to try to determine if you want to see certain areas or hit some waters. Were I you Id put Banff and Jasper as starting points and go from there.

Rp3flyfisher 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2009 There is alot of BS going on right now with non residents on the skeena system. I am not sure of the outcome (If there is one yet) but if what has been proposed goes through, you will only be able to fish the river if you are with a guide, and you will be paying big. There are some GREAT river systems in the eastern part of the province, but no Salmon. If you want Salmon, try the Bulkly, Kispiox, Skeena (If things work out). If you don't mind not going for Salmon, go to the Kootnays. Thsi is the most beautiful area in the province, and has some of the best westslope cutthroat action you will ever find. Some rivers to look at in the area are the Elk, The Michelle, The St Mary, And the Bull. Some of these rivers hold tons of medium sized Cutties, and some HUGE ones as well, they even hold HUGE Bulls and whitefish. Good Luck, and if you need any more info, feel free to E-mail me at [email protected] And no, I do not guide in the area, I just like helping out.
