Fred H. 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2009 An interesting beetle. It arches its abdomen like a scorpion yet it has no stinger. It's a defensive technique. The eye of the hook is between the mandibles and this fly is 100% tied .every piece, let me say that again EVERY piece of material is tied to the hook. Nothing was used other than deerhair, thread ,monofilement and tissue (kleenex). With head cement. Coloring was done with a black sharpie. No super glue, no epoxy, no resin . And no this photo was not digitally altered.
Floyd 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2009 Now that's a great looking bug. I'm impressed. Using Kleenex as one of the ingredients was unique. Great job Fred
Fred H. 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2009 Thanks Floyd , but using tissue was being used by David martin many many years ago. He is the one that taught me the technique. But I don't know of anyone who has tied this particular insect before. Fred

Fred H. 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2009 Thanks guys, I tried shaving the mono on the legs to create spines or hairs . It just looks messy. I think it will work ,I just need more practice. Fred
