countrykat 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 Just got back from Wal Mart and came across a pretty good find. I went to the craft section and found sheets of foam for .33 cent 8x11" and a package of 50 sheets 5 1/2 x 8 1/2" for $5. There are 2 differant packages, 1 has neon colors and 1 has more natural colors. They both have 13 differant colors and are 2mm thick from the looks of it. Lots of white black and red, shades of green, tan, pink, orange and blue. Sure beats paying $2 for a couple pieces of 3 x 5". Hope it helps
Camo Clad Warrior 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 Sorry I didnt see this earlier. Wal-Mart does have a great price on their foam, but the problem is that at my wal mart the only have one size...2 mm. This is ok but I like a variety of sizes when i am doing more than just one or two layers of foam. I have found at my local dollar store( I believe it is a Dollar Tree) they have 1.5 mm and 1 mm for cheap. In the package you get 10 sheets of 8x10 sheets.... rockworm 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 CountryCat, CamoClad, SmallTown: I am interested- is all this stuff closed-cell? (ie: will it absorb water after submersion?) Tell me what you know about this stuff. I got some free sheets of 3mm foam from a kid's activity center once that looked great and came in all the best colours. Unfortunately, I can't use it for floating flies as it takes up too much water.
the saltydog 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 yup its closed cell foam so it floats like a cork.

Camo Clad Warrior 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2009 Closed cell for me as well. The reson I like the foam is that it always floats, and can take a beating by fish. Also, there are a lot of patterns out there and it is quite easy to work with.
