Sagittarius62 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2009 I haven't been able to find a setup specific to the Danvise. Are any of the ones out there better than others? I do have the extension arm already. Or would you advise buying a low cost vise and tube rig to match? Thanks in Advance.
Fred H. 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2009 no tube rig is really needed. There is a step by step in the Hatches online magazine by tyer named "letumgo" that shows how to do tube jigs with a normal vise and a hook with the eye and barb removed. Philly 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 I just picked up some material to tie tube flies. This may not be much help, but I ended up using a large needle with the eye end big enough to hold the front tube tight. Trimmed the point end to a length that there was enough needle to secure it tightly in the jaws, and to hold the back end of the tube snug against the jaws. It's worked OK. Obviously not as well as a tube tying tool. This is the first one I tied on the jerry rig.
longears 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2009 I like my Norvise tube fly attachment but there are cheap attachments that will attach to any vise by clamping them on the jaws.
Sagittarius62 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2009 Thanks guys. I have looked at some of the homegrown techniques mentioned, Letumgo's in particular. I am aware of the basic tube fly rigs like this this one. Â Â I guess my question is whether the Danvise with the extension arm gives enough clearance behind the jaws for the mandrel. letumgo 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2009 That is the tube fly tool I use on my Danvise. I don't have the extension arm on my Danvice, so I had to do a "field modification" so the mandrels fit properly (see photos below). I drilled a fine hole in the head of the vice to allow the mandrels to be inserted further back on the vice. Works like a charm. Â Â If you have the extension arm, you should have plenty of room for the mandrels.
Sagittarius62 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2009 Thanks Ray. Cool modification. Hey, have you noticed that the Wingless Wets board seems to have gone off the grid?
letumgo 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2009 Yeah, I've tried repeatedly to get on Mark's site today. I've been tempted to send him an E-mail to find out what happened. I hope the site is back up soon. I'm already going through withdrawals.
Sagittarius62 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2009 Me too, and I haven't been able to either. I checked his main site, and there is no notice of anything amiss.
