JustinDavis 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2009 This is my first tube fly ever. I have wanted to try some out for awhile now, and finally decided to buy the tube tool. Anyhoo. It was quite fun. Its a little more challenging to spin deer hair on the much larger diameter of the tube. You can't really spin it, is more of a hold it in place and flare it. Then do the same thing all the way around. Anyways, I'm just rambling now so, I'm going to stop. Justin
Sagittarius62 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2009 I like it. I just ordered my first load of tube fly material, and have been looking at a number of recipes. I am interested in smallmouth flies, and this one will be on my short list. :headbang:
cruncher 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2009 Nicely done. Like the use of the mylar over the tube for the body. Also, spinning hair is hard enough and keeping that tube still while applying the tension needed must've been tough. Question though, how are you going to connect the hook? You probably needed to leave a 1/4 inch exposed on the tube at the rear for the junction tube, no?
JustinDavis 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 Yep, I figured that out after I tied the thing. So this one is going on the shelf, and I get to tie a whole new one. I guess that's the learning curve part of it. I tied it without really reading a whole lot about it. I guess I knew somewhere in the back of my head that I needed that, but the concept didn't really hold enough I guess. Atleast I didn't waste an expensive tube on it. Justin
