Well I need Help....

Recommended Posts

Well hey guys. Im Ty. and I am a fairly well experienced fly fisherman. I fish with my dad only and no one else in my family fishes or ties fly's besides me. I am still in school and I desperately need help to find an easy way to get more into the new hobby of fly tying. I have been tying flies after school, if possible, for about the last 3 months. Anything easy dry fly patterns would help to start. Thanks again.

If your looking for some help ask some one who's been tying for a while or read a book. Im sure that an experienced tier would have no problem helping you out. If your looking for new patterns try the internet or go down to your local bookstore and see if they have anything on fly tying, the beginners guide to fly tying and the fly tiers bible are both really good books.

Hi Paintball, I posted another thread with 3 bugs that you can easily learn. Search the pattern database for ideas, learn all you can. My buddy Brian Brown75 is your age and a fine tyer. He will gladly help. Also keep posting, there are a large number of teachers and experts that will gladly assist.

Have fun!!, Futzer.

hey paintball,

if you are looking for an easy dry fly pattern try the griffiths knat. it is a peakock herl body with a grizzly palmered hackle. very simple. need a step-by-step just let me know i can do a video on it and post it. there are a lot of similar patterns and you should be able to learn from there.

MontanaBound

p.s. Brian is really good and for someone your age knows a lot.

Look in the fly tying database, there are more patterns than you could tie in lifetime, as for an easy dry, Elk Hair Caddis pops in my mind, Griffith's gnat small but very easy, small ant patterns or terrestrials like beetles etc. all of those are relatively easy and catch lots of fish. Good Luck, Eric
