Low light sunglasses

Recommended Posts

Seems like every sunglasses company that has their "sunglasses guide" advising on which color works best for low-light condition, they often contradict each other. Some say amber, some say brown, one said grey, one even said blue.

Who uses what color for low light? I've got stack of glasses for bright light, but am lacking in the cloudy/low light department.

Help?

Over the years I have tried a few different colors. And now I have pretty much settled on two colors, Amber and Gray. Amber IMO gives the best low light vision because it helps to intensify what light is available. Then I have Gray for real bright light.

But with that said I will tell you this....I use my Amber glasses probably 99% of the time, even in real bright daylight. It may just be me but I have found that I can see contrast and shadows in the water much better with the amber ones than with the gray ones, even on super bright days.

Amber I use them 99% of the time. But one of my customers is an opthamologist and he can get ray bag lenses in clear that are polarized. Id like a clear set for low light.

I've always preferred amber.......with that said, someone on here a couple of years ago made mention of a set of glasses w/interchangeable lens made by Uvex.....I found them for sale on "Sierra Trading Post". You got 3 sets of lens....amber,gray, and clear they came w/a padded case.....for $29.99, you got the non-polarized set and fro $39.99, you got the set with the gray lens being polarized.....I use the clear lens for night fishing....I've never seen them for sale anywhere else, but was familiar w/the Uvex name as they are big in the safety glasses industry....

My regular glasses have Amber lens, but a guide I fished with let me try his "yellow" lens one evening and I have to admit that they certainly a huge improvement over Amber at dusk.

OK, this is what I thought. I thought I wanted a pair of amber lenses, but I've read in a couple of places where it said brown and grey for low light so it got me thinking. Figured I'd ask for real world advice.

I was fishing with a friend years ago in Montana. I had grey lenses and he had amber/yellow. One day I had a horrendous headache from the glare and he didn't. Next day I put on my amber/yellow (the old Orvis $12 specials) and haven't used any color but since. I've upgraded my sunglasses since then but always stick with the amber/yellow.
