airedale 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2009 Hey, Pike Hunter! Where is St. Michael in MN? Is it by the cities? I am also in Minnesota. I mostly use Wooly buggers for Smallies, since it kind can be taken as anything in a lake, whether a nymph, crayfish, or baitfish. But a good pattern that represents something meaty in a pond is a Mrs. Simpson (at least I think that is what it is called). Works well on Lake Vermillion up here. BigDaddyHub 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2009 a very simple hellgrammite pattern can be tied using zonker strips....very simple, has great fluidity, and can be deadly when stripped in short, quick bursts....SmalliHunter has a great rabbit strip hellgrammite...PM him and he may share it with you

THe Mrs. Simpson is the best, I also use it for trout on biger rivers like the Ottawa river.

St. Michael is located directly between St. Cloud and Minneapolis on 94. We are about 45 minutes from Minneapolis. It sounds like the Mrs. Simpson is a good pattern to try...where could I find a recipe or a pic of it? Thanks --Chad
