jman 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 I'm no authority by any means but my wife and I went to northern Saskatchewan a few years ago on a "fly fishing for Pike trip" and I tied a variety of things and by far the best producer was a "bunny bug". Bright colored rabbit zonker around the hook w/ a rabbit strip about 3 inches long on the end as a tail. It looked great in the water fished with a small steel leader and the strikes were no less than awesome. It cast like a wet sock though. Someone along the way told me to try fishing it with something like Firewire or kevlar as the leader.

skyphix 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2009 I'm also no expert, but thus far my best Esox fly has been Tied in various sizes. This one was tied for trout and bass but when I tie them for pike and pickerel they are tied with a longer tail and a flash of red.

Pike-Hunter 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2009 I use these early in the season when I can still catch them with topwaters then I switch to a 6 inch EP style fly with a bill on it when they start moving out of the shallows. --Chad
