Peterjay 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2009 Thanks Rob, I'm glad you liked my stuff. I agree with you 100% about the barrage of nonsense that artists have to duck to keep the creative fires burning. A lot of talented people, especially young ones, have had the creativity crushed out of them by overbearing teachers, "experts" and critics. It's tough to learn when every independent thought you have is being trashed by the self-appointed arbiters of taste, technique and style. None of that mean-spirited crap goes on here, which is one reason the Photo Corner is such a fun place to post your work and pick up a few tips. I wrote that artist's statement and bio with the thought that people would get a few chuckles out of it, but I meant every word. Maybe it's just me, but I find artists' statements downright silly, especially from visual artists. Hell, if your work is articulate enough to be exhibited, it shouldn't require an explanation. Besides, what kind of a person would turn a parrot loose in a public library? Certainly not a person I'd care to associate with. BTW, all that stuff in my bio actually happened, with one exception: Mom didn't really own a cattle prod, mainly because none of the stores in our area carried them. Lucky for me they didn't.
