richs 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2009 Can anyone help with the Id of this fly or where I might get more. I can make them, but can't find the body material. It's like a superfine chenille, but stiffer. It's so simple, I'm a little embassassed to be asking, but man is it effective on midge or mayfly sippers. utyer 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2009 It looks like micro size ultra chenille. Wapsi and Spirit River both distribute similar small chenilles. http://www.jsflyfishing.com/cgi-bin/item/S...ille-Micro.html
rockworm 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2009 richs Kind of hard to tell from your photo- but it looks like that extended body might be made from furled floss. Especially if it has a very small diameter. (Maybe with a coating of Superglue to give it stiffness?)
mouse6196 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2009 It is some sort of parachute / extended body fly.... Can't really tell as we have no size reference. What size hook is it on...if it's a size 12 or larger, I'd say its a damsel or dragonfly imitation (dry), if it's 14 or smaller it's just an extended body dry fly like a mayfly or similar...really hard to tell with this photo...try to get a size reference adn it might help out a bit. Nice looking fly though...
