Student4evr 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2009 In the last 2 swaps I have hosted there problems with packages sent from Canada to the US. One package did not arrive and the other was Higraded for the flies and the cash for the return postage. While the first package could be explained in any number of ways, it was pretty obvious what the problem was with the second. It was one of the self sealing envelopes and the customs tag indicated the contents. Who ever it was simply opened the envelope and resealed it. I would recommend you seal the flap with tape before sending all your packages. The extra effort required to open it and the obvious damage would discourage pilfering. Pelhament 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2009 My solution has unfortunately become not to join any swaps with a Swapmeister outside of the US and not to allow any participants outside of the US in my swaps. Its become too much hassle and it is starting to cost me a lot of money. I have had 3 swaps now where my flies didn't make it and 1 where I didn't get them back. I also make sure to label them as craft supplies.
rich5665 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2009 To date I have had one swap participant let me know that his flies never made it across the border. I've been in 16 swaps since March and over half have been cross border swaps. I agree with the extra tape for the envelope, even for local deliveries. ibian 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2009 No problems with the border so far. Knock on wood. I think I usually put "Artifical fishing fly samples" or sometimes "fishing hook samples" on the declaration.
yellow bomber 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2009 I just sent a package out for the Steelhead Swap and there were no declaration forms to fill out or anything of the sort. I bought a IRC, put it in the envelope, they put a stamp on it and it was done with. Wonder whats gonna happen at the border with this one?

I have only had trouble with envelopes without customs declarations. Good luck! p.s. I am one of the ones that went missing on Frank.

mouse6196 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2009 I've hosted and participated in many swaps and never had a problem with the border. I send cash to US swapmeisters as the IRC usually don't cover all teh postage.
