Horseshoes 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2009 Snapped this one, I believe it is a damsel nymph, not sure. Alot of the creatures flying around looked like blue maple tree seeds. You know the helicopter blades. Anyways here is a close up.
oatka 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2009 Disclaimer: I'm NOT an expert, I don't even play one on TV. But, I think that might be a dragon fly nymph, not a damsel. Alex of 40 Rivers to Freedom posted this damsel fly nymph yesterday. Notice how it's body is thinner than yours (your nymph picture...) and it has tails. Your bug has a fatter body and no tails, which I believe makes it a dragon. Again I'm not an expert, but I think it's a dragon. Now, let's have the experts weigh in on it! Horseshoes 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2009 Thanks Futzer, just thought the tiers in realistics would like a closeup at a different stage. Oatka you are probably right. Not always sure of the type when in different stages but I will share for the ones who do. Thanks. :kicking:
Rp3flyfisher 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 Looks like a Libellulidae or Gomphus Dragonfly. Here is a Libellulidae pic I took a few weeks back; Here is a Darner Dragonfly; And here is a pic of a Gomphus Dragonfly; Gomphus and Libellulidae are often taken for each other. They are VERY similar, Gomphus are primarily River dwelling Dragons, and Libellulidae are Lake dwellers along with Darners. Rick
