Peterjay 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2009 The Millstone nuclear power plant in Waterford, Connecticut has a big outflow area that is very warm compared to the surrounding water. In the summer, a lot of southern species come north on the gulf stream and peel off into surrounding areas when the water warms up enough for them to survive. When it cools down in the fall, the southern fish are dead meat unless they can find a warm spot to spend the winter, and lot of them will congregate in the power plant outflow. I've seen or heard of everything from ladyfish to jack crevalle hanging out in there. If you can imagine fishing for Florida and Caribbean species in a Connecticut snowstorm while wearing a fur-lined parka, I think you get the idea. Since 9/11, you can't get in there any more, which I guess ends my dream of setting the Connecticut record for tarpon.
Futzer 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2009 I am waiting for someone to say Southern Alabama for JSzymczyk's enjoyment. J/King. I misspent my youth sneaking on a few different Golf courses in the greater Denver area. I have fished with Bison wading near by in Yellowstone. Had a moose wade in with me on the middle Provo once, He got about 5 feet away, and I was deep enough that I was considering a swim for it, but he kept on his way. Cheers, Futzer. Arkansas Mike 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2009 Had a moose wade in with me on the middle Provo once... Don't guess you were overly concerned about spooking the trout while wading, what with a moose escorting you and all. I would have probably got my line caught in his rack on a back cast.
