smalltownfisherman 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2009 Sweet fly Jan! It has trout written ALL OVER IT! :headbang: gage
smallieFanatic 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2009 Thanks Gage, I already posted a hellgrammite pattern, this one is a little differant. On the Hellgrammite pattern from the book American Nymphs (the pattern I have previously posted) there is no rib over the herl, so every time a fish bit on the fly, it pulls the Ostritch back (or breaks it) and ruins the fly. I have added a wire rib, took off the black hackle (which I thought was wholly un-attractive and doesn't much change the productivity of the fly) and added a bunch of silky Ostritch over the Hare dubbing on the thorax. I have yet to test the thing, but I have high hopes. Jan
Arkansas Mike 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2009 That's a good one, Jan. You are right about ix-naying with the hackle. I love using ostrich herl. I'm embarrassed to say this is the first time I've checked out all of your flies in the database. You're the man, dude. :headbang: Mike
smallieFanatic 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2009 Thanks Mike, you don't know how much that means to me. As you probably noticed, some of that old stuff isn't all that great, but this forum has helped out a HUGE amount with my tying since then. I appreciate it :headbang: Jan

smallieFanatic 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2009 Just look look out for those feet, they can deliver a deadly kick. I suggest standing to the side when you do the extraction.
smalltownfisherman 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2009 Just look look out for those feet, they can deliver a deadly kick. I suggest standing to the side when you do the extraction. As always! The trick is to tease them close to the fence and then pluck a fistfull of feathers and run like crazy before the zookeepers catch you!
smallieFanatic 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2009 Really, the thing you'd have to do is get your little brother to bribe the zookeeper as you're doing your dirty work.
