Farewell Classic and Custom Fly Shop

Recommended Posts

Some of you have had the opportunity to visit our wonderful Farmington River in CT....Classic and Custom Fly Shop a fixture on that river for years closes tomorrow. For those of you that know Dave Goulet, you know the wonderful flies he has tied over the years....we were commercial tiers for the same establishment back in the 70's and have seen the sport go through many changes. Visit his site for a wonderful "farewell" speech he posted.....

www.classicandcustomflyshop.com

Dave, you are one of the great fly tiers of the modern era and you will be sorely missed.

What a long strange trip it's been,

John

Three's a charm...I asked Dave how many flies he tied in his commercial career and it was an eye popping 1.2 million!

Let's hear from some of you other CT/MA/NY people....

I guess forty years and 1.2 million flies doesn't have as much stock in this land of instant experts....

Considering there are 16 year old girls from Sri Lanka that have already doubled that number... Meh, I am not that impressed.

Thanks for the cheap shot though!

Josh

Josho...the fish in your avatar will not substitute for the anatomical part some of us use to procreate with....there...that's a cheap shot. I won't even get in to the politics of offshore tying houses because we've been there and done that before here and it's never pretty.....

:ripped: :yahoo:

If my "anatomical parts used to procreate" were as big as my Lahontan I would be making pornos for a living and not tying flies!

You say this because not many people responded to your thread, or in particular to the number of threads that Dave has tied? Perhaps the majority of people on this site don't live in the area and aren't aware of Dave's shop and therefore never opened the thread to begin with. Just a thought.

Dave is a consummate professional who knows the Farmington like the back of his hand. His shop closing is a loss, mainly for the lack of accessibility that people will have to his knowledge base. I wish him well.
