Getting Hooks Custom Made

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know how to have a custom shape hook manufactured? Or does anyone work directly for a hook manufacturer and can put me in contact with someone who can form wire?

I'm looking to have some custom made double waddington shanks with a couple of extra bends made for my latest flies.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

I do that all the time, wish they would do shanks for articulated stuff + there would not have the sharp edge from being cut

tes I'm to lazy to smooth that edge away

Kevan - For articulated stuff, I use stainless steel leader wire used for deep sea fishing. Bend it into a paper clip shape so there is two loops one at each end, with three strands in the center. You can use one loop for the eye and twist the rear loop to a ninety degree angle so you can run it through the eye of the rear hook and it ride correctly. After attaching the trailer hook put the shank in the vise and tie it all together with thread and tie your fly. This way you can make it to any length you want.

I don't know if he does custom orders, but you might try this guy:

Thanks for the tip. I think I'm looking for some people with CNC's and servos and whatnot. Someone who can turn data and a 40 foot coil of wire into a product.

Thanks though, anyone else have a tip?

wow, you're looking at either a huge cost per hook or a huge number of one size/style of hook.

good luck.

Dude, seriously.

I'll buy the hooks, cut them off, file the edges, and sell them to you....
