TitanFlies 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2009 I'd like to take this time and post a somber and modest thank you to the people in uniform that gave up their lives at Pearl Harbor. You will always be remembered. "This land will be the land of the free as long as it is the home of the brave." -Elmer Davis
smallieFanatic 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2009 I'll second that. A huge thanks to those brave soldiers who gave their lives so we can have freedom. God bless all those soldiers that serve for our country...and God bless America!!!

Ridleyffo 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2009 Im sure we have a few of the greatest generation on this forum and my thanks and patriotic efforts seem like a pittance compared to what these men and all veterans offer up. You are not forgotten!

Chase Creek 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2009 Agreed. Dad and his 4 brothers enlisted a few days after Pearl. My Uncles ended up in Europe and the Pacific. My dad was in North Africa, Italy, France, and Germany. After the war, until he died in '68, I noticed whenever a thunderstorm was approaching, he'd find something to do in the basement. He enjoyed hunting before the war, but never picked up a gun again after he came home. I never really understood all of this until I read S. Ambros (sp) book "Citizen Soldier". It really brought home the incredable sacrifices these folks made, then and now. If you get a chance, read that book. It will give you a whole new outlook on our servicemen. I shed many a tear while reading it. I, for one, will always remember.
JSzymczyk 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2009 The generation which stood up to tyranny- and I mean an ENTIRE POPULATION almost, was the last one I fear. It will never again happen in this country, no matter what atrocities befall us. Some day in the not too distant future, we will see an internet news headline that says "Last WWII Veteran Dies".... and it will all be a distant memory, changed and glossed over in junior-high "history" books. An Uncle of mine enlisted in the Navy after Pearl, at the age of 15 (long, illegal, interesting story...) so he could do his part to save his nation. He was far from the only kid who did that. By and large today's 15 year old boys can't think beyond Twitter and why they deserve to drive a new Acura. No, it will never happen again. God bless them. Very very true. I know of a number of older guys that tell how they signed up well before they were 18 yrs old. That's just something 15-17yr old kids now a days would never do. The generation of WWII vets were/are a very special group of patriots that's for sure. Steve
