donboake 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2009 since I suck!! The hardest fly I've tied is a easy streamer or egg pattern

riffleriversteelheadslayer 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2009 like flytire said when you first start they all are hard but if you mean hardest to tie consistantly accurate I would have to say any full dressed salmon fly and for fishing flies my hardest is a glow bug I hate them although I get them close they never are perfect
Bruce Derington 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2009 Not necessarily the hardest but most likey the most time consuming, the classic Jock Scott

Guest Report post Posted December 31, 2009 The Popham is the pattern that has stumped me. I've tried to tie it 3 times and failed, I have no desire to try another.

TroutBum, I figured you could tie anything. Did you have to toss out the IC? The hardest flies I ever tied was my first one and my last one. flykid 0 Report post Posted January 1, 2010 For me it's spun deer hair. But that's just because I haven't spent enough time with them to get good. It may not necessarily be the toughest to tie.
Scud 0 Report post Posted January 1, 2010 Not necessarily the hardest but most likey the most time consuming, the classic Jock Scott I tell ya Bruce, those flies amaze me. I don't think I'll ever have he patience to tie those. Truly amazing. The first fly of any pattern for me is the hardest. Like Voodoo said, then something just clicks. deeky 0 Report post Posted January 1, 2010 For me, size 20 Parmachene Belle. Even with 8/0 thread, it was a definite exercise in limiting thread wraps to get everything on and keep the head small. Also did it with no magnification - made my eyes hurt. Deeky

Guest Report post Posted January 1, 2010 Given up on weaving flies anymore. Use skin, plastic bags, feather quills folded over now for the 2 tone. Lots easier with these old fingers than trying to keep from loosing the weave 'bout halfway through.... :frusty: Later DL
