Eusebius 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2010 I’ve been called a few not so friendly labels in my 55 years, but never a bait fisherman. This may take some targeted self control and humility. All kidding aside, I have been known to toss a spoon or plug into the FL mangroves out of a kayak, at least until I can get my backcast off the water. By way of introduction I started flyfishing here in SE Alaska in 1983. I set my tying efforts aside (bought flies) for the past 6 to 7 years as my family, job and community have taken more of what precious free time I can find. However, my kids teamed up with the wife and bought me a Renzetti Presentation vice in preparation of my retirement needs, so I better start rolling my own pretty soon. I fish mostly salt water with a (mostly) yearly pilgrimage to the Dechutes River around the last week of May. I also have started to prepare for retirement in 4 to 5 years by prospecting the Gulf Coast of Florida. I have begun flyfishing down there (grandkids!!!!) every year, mostly for Snook (which BTW is absent from the species list in the fly database section, horrible oversight!). I was simply blown away by the availability of YouTube tying video’s. Lot’s of good stuff both there and here. I have spent a few hours perusing post here and have found a treasure chest of ideas, links and great tip and advice. Look forward to sharing with all. Cheers, RT SE Alaska
Old Hat 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2010 Welcome. Can't help much with SE Alaska or Florida although lived in Daytona Beach for 2 years after the Army duty. Now the Deschutes is getting close to my neck of the woods. Timing the Salmonflies? Lots of great info here and it appears your family has set you up well. Post flies, ask questions and you'll be "rolling" in no time.
DoctorD 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2010 I have been lurking around for some time. Was introduced to flyfishing and tying at age 14 (now social security eligible) at Camp Horseshoe by Doc H. Made my first bamboo rod in September under the watchful eye of Jim Pippel. Still working but fish when I can. I have fished Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Wyoming, California, Arkansas, Virgina, Florida and southern Bavaria. Currently member of FFF and Dupage River Fly Tiers.
