What hook do you use when you tie down to a 14 on those? I'm getting ready to tie some hard and soft foam poppers for my local panfish lakes, and am having a hard time deciding on the best hook for small, panfish sized poppers. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.... Best Regards- Bob

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.... Best Regards- Bob For my #14s I use what Wapsi sells as a Bream Popper #PPO #12 body. The hooks I use for both the #14s and the #12s which I use the Wapsi #10 body is the Orvis #4641 which is their Straight Eye(Big Eye) dry fly hook. Since there is no kink, I am very careful to really fill the slot with superglue. Also I wrap a bit of thread around the shank to hopefully help it have something for the glue to grab onto. I also use the #10 Wapsi #PPO with #10 dry fly hooks. When I want a slightly larger #10 I take the Wapsi #8 #PPR body and sand the back of the body until the tip of the hook point of a #10 Mustad CK52S is right under the back of the head. No trimming is necessary when you use a #8 body with the #8 Mustad hook.
flybeetlefly 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2010 A Rio Grand Cichlid of my own: Stippled, those are some first class poppers. I especially like the RioPopper. The smallmouth here in VA would go nuts for those. Thanks for sharing and if you have few extra of those larger RioPopper I would love to have one.
