BassBugs3366 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2010 I've been tying a pattern like the pictured. Its hard to tell what material they are using for the main part of the body, but the pattern is pretty easy to tie. Tail.... marabou or dyed grizzly marabou and add some flash if you like. Body...... Wooly bugger Chennille for main part of the body and micro or standard size Ultra Chennille for over and under the body, colors your choice to match the Minnow. I like to wrap 10 - 15 turns of lead wire on the hook first. 3-D eyes 3-4 x long hook, I like straight eye hooks Hope this helps Dennis
buggybob 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2010 Tie your marabou pointing over the hook eye. It will be pulled back over the top and bottom of the body and tied down as the last tying step to create the tail.
NJ All Day 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2010 from the looks of the picture you could do a thick dub of ice dub and then the tail is white and black maribou. then those maribou ends were pulled over the top and bottom of the body.
tmatt26 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2010 I may try building up the body with mono or chenille. The trick will be getting the profile while keeping the fly thin and light. Then covering it with some cheap thread then dub the whole body. Then attempt buggybob's marabou idea for the tail and top and bottom coverings. Thanks guys, I'll post a pic when I get finished. David Legg 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2010 Also, on that kind of build, where there is not a wire rib to reinforce the fibers on the top and bottom, and stripe of Zap-a-Gap will help make the fly more durable. (Or you could use a wire rib, or both.)
