AF_Tier 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2010 I was trying to take pictures and explain the M.O.A.L. tying process, and it just didn't work out. So here's a video! I've never made an instructional video, so sorry if the light is bad, but it should explain the process. Hope it helps! It's 48mb, but that's not too bad, I hope. Frank It looks good to start, but I don't have enough bandwidth to easily view it. It keeps stopping to rebuffer. I need to get to a hardwired internet connection. AF_Tier 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2010 I'm glad you can get it to open, since I get an error every time I try. And if you open it, pause it, and walk away for 5 minutes at the tying bench, that buffer will catch up, and you can watch it without all the pauses. Stippled Popper 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2010 I opened it and chose the save it to my hard drive option. This usually works better for me even with my medium fast internet connection. Nice presentation. The left hand issue really wasn't a problem for me.
Wellman 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2010 Thank You very much. Much clearer then any other video I have seen of it.

DoctorD 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2010 I watched the video. He seems to waste too much time finishing the head. Just wrap the cross-cut rabbit right up to the conehead, give it an extra wrap and tie off, put some of that glue into the conehead and push the conehead back over the rabbit and your done. The cut off end of the rabbit strip will fit nicely under the cone head and save you a lot of time. Lanning
AF_Tier 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2010 I take a bit of extra time on there because of the torture I'll be putting that fly through. I'll be dragging it through vegetation, against fallen trees, and (hopefully) pulling it out of the mouths of some hungry bass. I could shave a few minutes off finishing the head, sure, but my plan is to have that fly at the end of the season. Frank P.S. That video is to show how I tie it, not how it should be tied. Corrections and suggestions on improvement are welcome!

whatfly 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2010 Not too bad a job but as discussed, a pretty rough tutorial. Take a look at Jay Nicholas' video for an example of a cleaner shorter presentation. It seems to me that trying to shoot these sorts of tutorials from a static position is problematic as well, but not much can be done about that, other than to get the best angle possible. Over the shoulder would be best, but can be difficult to achieve. Lighting is also critical.
