Wellman 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2010 Pheasant Tail Crayfish Thread - 8/0 to 6/0 Brown Hook - Mustad R74 Pheasant as Shellback and claws Mono Eyes Rib - Copper Wire Body - A heavy brown dubbing mixed with ice dub. A dumbell eye would help with get the fly down. I just use a sink tip. This pattern was difficult to take pictures a certain steps. Step 1 Step2 Step3 Step 4 Step 5 Step 6,7 Step 8 Step 9 Step 10 Step 11, 12 Do not tie down pheasant just the rib. Step 13 Step
DevinKaradeema 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2010 simple but still full bodied. i'm no good at making mono eyes so dumbells or even a bead chain would be for me. great pattern!
Firetiger 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2010 Wellman, that is a nice pattern and clear SBS, I like DevinKaradeema, the mono eyes need not be difficult. Consider this approach: 1) light a small tea candle 2) cut a few pieces of heavy mono about 2 inches long 3) burn one end of the mono, so it makes a small black ball 4) dip the small black ball in epoxy, so you have big clear eyeball with a small black pupil inside 5) stick the mono by the other end in some foam or whatever to keep it stable while it dries. Repeat steps 3 to 5 as often as necessary Dumbells or other heavy kinds of eyes tilt the fly the wrong way, tis better to omit eyes altogether.

ditz2 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2012 I really like this dad. You can bet that I will be trying some next season for bass and rock bass. Carp might like them too.
creekwalker 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2012 This looks like a great pattern for bass, and use up all those tail clumps. Mike
Team Fnish 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2012 This is a great pattern!I tie something very similar out of brighter materials for Greg DeLapp up in Washington. Your color and materials are much more natural and make for a great fly. I have had many trout take this pattern in late summer.

I do something very similar though I've changed my methods a little bit. This might help someone though. Nice shrimp pattern.
