Hot Tuna 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2010 Just finished watching LaFointaine Originals Vol.2(BTs Fly Fishing Products) which I recently obtained on Ebay. What a great tape! Good job Al and Gretchen. Also includes the tying talents of Paul and Char Stimpson who I hadn't seen tie before...great tiers. I particularly liked the Enchanted Prince Nymph pattern and the "double magic" technique. Brilliant!!! A lot of out of the box thinking on this one which Gary was so good at. Gone but never forgotten.
Al Beatty 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2010 Hi Hot Tuna, Thanks for the "plug" regarding the LaFontaine DVD's. We had a lot of fun working with Gary (and Paul/Char Stimpson) on the 7-video project. Yes, he is gone but not forgotten; we miss him a lot and spoke about him on Friday after receiving a call from a customer who wanted to verify how to perform a LaFontaine tying technique. That tip was how he liked to glue bead-head patterns. TIP: He placed a drop of glue (or crazy glue) on top of the bead head before applying the whip-finish. Then he "formed the triangle of tying thread" with the whip-finish tool and "drug" the leading strand of thread through the glue on the top of the bead while applying the whip-finish. In so doing he glued the fly from the inside out. That little trick sure improved the durability of bead-head flies. Take care & ...
