Source for rabbit or squirrel strips

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I have been tying tonnes of leech patterns (zuddlers etc.) and was hoping to find a better place to buy the rabbit or squirrel strips from. I currently buy from an Orvis dealer in Ottawa and they charge $4.99 (+ a few bucks for shipping) for a pack of 3 strips about 5 inches in length - doesn't last long!

It's a popular material for all sorts of flies so I am hoping someone has a secret source

Fly Tyers Dungeon and Canadian Llama Company have been great sources for hooks,beads/eyes, and synthetic materials - I am really liking these material source threads (I am saving hundreds)!!!

Thanks. I have tried to find places that sell full skins in Canada and they have been difficult to find. Hobby Lobby seems to be a USA only company.

Try the Moscow Fur Trading Company http://www.hideandfur.com/

Look in the fur and hides or Misc and make your own.

Or dyed already

If you want them in bulk

Or here is one for strips

Don't know how any of these will work in Canada

I find them in Canada when I travel to go camping. It seems most of the road side tourist spots sells pelts between $5-$7. Get white and dye them you'll save a ton of money. $2 is a fantastic deal I'd jump all over that the next time I need to make some. Heres a cool video on how to quickly cut them.

I really hate to do this because this is my source (for most colors) but this guy on E-bay sells them for 4.99 for a half skin shipped in the US. I am unsure what he would charge for international shipping but I am sure you could find out as well. Also of there is a color you are looking for that you don't see just send him a message and he'll sen you a lost of what he has and or can get.

Just log on and search for seller name creations509, that is the guy, he also has a bunch of other stuff and has been great, I personally have ordered close to 60+ skins from him in the last couple or three years and have never gotten a skin I was to upset with, I have gotten a couple of skins that were moderately thin but nothing horrible.
