SearchingSolitude 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2010 I am going to a high alpine lake in Southwest Colorado in July. It is at 11,000 ft! What go to patterns would you tie up for this? I want 12 different patterns. I'm thinking attractors BUT there may be some specific species hatching. If you've had experience with High alpine lakes please chime in!!! --Searching!! rockworm 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2010 You need to find out more about the lake. Depth, vegetation, etc. In the absence of more info I think a few buzzer (chironomid larva and pupa) patterns would be a good bet.

blakejd 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2010 Patterns for CO high lakes are generally pretty straight forward. Nothing super small is normally needed. I generally make sure I have a few of the following but you can usually make just about anything work. Adams 12-18 your favorite hopper 10-14 BWO 14-20 Mosquito 12-16 EHC 12-16 Stimulators 10-14 humpy 114-16 Royal wolf 14-18 I always have more success on drys than nymphs but that's probably because that's what I use so I can't suggest nymphs. JohnP 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2010 I would include Griffith's Gnat with the other excellent suggestions.

I know I'm just another Yank brutalizing the King's English here but I have no idea what you're talking about. Clarification please. --Searching!! Firetiger 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2010 I have little experience with alpine lakes of Colorado, but I fished alpine lakes in the French Alpes. The fish there were small & thin but eager to gain some meat over the short mountain summer. They kept pretty much to the bottom though, so the best approach were leeches and small beadheads. Smallish lures - about size 12 - in natural colors worked also fine.
