Guest Report post Posted July 12, 2010 That doesn't make any sense to me. What possible concern could they have about some fly tying tools being in your checked baggage? It's not like you have access to the bag while your on the plane. I agree with Steelie, if they are going to pull harmless items from our bags they need to do it right in front of us. We have to at least have an opportunity to arrange something to be shipped back to our home instead of it "disappearing" to somebody's home.
Cheri 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 That's BS!! I had no problems with taking my tying gear in my checked bag to San Diego to see the grandbaby. My TSA problem was the TSA rent a cop knocking me to the ground and grabbing my "illegal fire arm" when I was coming through SD check point. Yes the dude knocked me down for my fly rod case! Morons!! Fight it no matter how long it takes!!

Horseshoes 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 UHMM..I am not sure what TSA is But I flew fron Nova Scotia to Cuba with enough rods, gears , hooks etc in my case to make it look like a sniper convention. Only thing that got a second look in both terminals, both ways was my electrical adapter , which I didn't need. I was nervous about losing everything. But I was told that when you have a direct flight or charter ,you do not run into the checked luggage theft. It apparently is when you have a layover(changing flights) or your luggage gets lost or delayed. I kept my rum and cigars in my carryon.( A girl has priorities after all.) Besides I promised Lykos33 a cigar and I am one to keep my word. The internet makes it quick and easy for your voice to be heard. So start typing to every level. Chad Trout 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 The only problem I had flying with my tying gear, is they took my bottle of head cement, because of the flammable label. The way I combated that was got a little applicator bottle with out a label and transferred the stuff into there and have had no problems with checking it with TSA since. Good luck, hopefully you will get reimbursed for your stuff.

Fight it no matter how long it takes!! I would of loved to see the look on his face as he tried to figure out how to load and fire your fly rod. What a MORON! I've tried, with limited sucess, to try and converse with the agents and sometimes it just makes a bad situation more palletable and other times I get searched as the plane is boarding. What I've learned is that I've just got to be true to myself and if that means I get searched, so be it. I've also found out that getting selected for additional screening is faster than the regular line.... sometimes it pays to be special. - Charlie
skeet3t 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 Dude, I would contact my U. S. senators about this. Elections are coming up and they are wanting to get all the brownie points they can! Remeber, they just pay them from the neck down!
BigDaddyHub 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2010 I work for the government......not much of anything the government does makes sense...to any one.....It may take months, but file complaints with any agency who will listen and your elected representatives. Let them know you're a kid....that always helps...Nooone likes to think the government is wronging and stealing from our our kids. Good luck with it, FB. perchjerker 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2010 For anyone who doubts that baggage handlers have time to pilfer items from one's checked luggage, THINK AGAIN! Some years ago, my late wife and I returned to Houston from Burbank Airport on a non-stop flight, and had checked our luggage. It was several weeks later when she realized that a black coral necklace I had given her was missing. Shortly thereafter, I discovered that a pair of cuff links and matching tie tack were also missing. I had been given this set as a H.S. graduation present some 15 years earlier, and it was very special to me as each piece had about a size#20 Scarlet Ibis mounted in it! A year or so later, there was a 20/20 segment on baggage handlers stealing from people's checked luggage that we watched. Needless to say, we both instantly knew what had happened to her necklace and to my cuff links and tie tack. The 20/20 segment even had videos of handlers pilfering luggage, taken by hidden cameras. Unfortunately, it as way too late to file a claim with the carrier by the time we realized what had happened. I would be shocked if it doesn't still occur today. perchjerker
c-denby 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2010 We have had a number of items go missing from our checked luggage over the years.. NOT ONCE have we been re-imbursed for what was stolen. Basically they tell you that they are not responsible for any lost or stolen luggage and that if its valuable to you then leave it home or keep it in your carry-on.. They will just jerk you around until you give up.. I would love to see them actually be charged and fined for allowing their employees to get away with stealing but I HIGHLY doubt we will ever see the day that any of these jerk offs will be punished properly.. Cheers Chris

mnorton 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2010 Fishboy Not sure if it too late or not but you should also contact the airline you flew on about filing a pilfridge report with them....also request in writing the rules for this and insurance on your checked luggage.....each bag is insured to a certain amount automatically by the airline AND that they charge now for all bags..... I used to work for a major airline so i know how this goes....It really sucks that people think they need to take others stuff because they want to but unfortunatley it happens by the scumbags in the industry. Most of the bag guys/girls are honest but there tis that select few that give them all a bad name if you follow what i am saying..... So follow up with the airline also along with the tsa people
