RustyB 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2010 I'm trying to tie some large streamers, with rabbit strips, and want to use a stinger hook to help with my short strikes. How's the best way to attach it to the rear of the rabbit strip? I've used 20 & 30 pound fireline to attach the stinger off of the main hook. Thanks for any help you can provide. smalliestalker 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2010 one of the rabbit strip flies that I make has a stinger hook..I put the hook through the tail section of rabbit strip leaving about half an inch of rabbit behind that....Works very well and creates extra movement...Hope that helps
RustyB 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2010 Do you pierce the hide with the hook or run the leader material through the hide with a needle? I've tried pushing the hook through the rabbit strip but can't quite get the look I want so the fly flows freely.
Frank G. Swarner III 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2010 Rusty, Check out the pick below. Basically, tie the rabbit strip onto a small piece of tube fly tubing (a piece of plastic qtip may work but may break easily) then slide the tube onto your stinger line then attach the hook. Cotter Pin: 1/8"(or slightly bigger) x 1 1/4" long brass Trailing loop for hook: 20lb beading wire (purple is shown) Body: Polar chenille or similar synthetic hackle Wing: Zonker strip 1/4" wide or slightly smaller (3/32" tube tied on zoonker strip 1 1/2" from tail) Collar #1: Marabou Collar #2: Mallarad Flank

Curtis Fry 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2010 Beadalon and a regular ol' brass swivel... (you can "thread" the Beadalon through the rabbit strip a couple of times if you'd like)
