Yes jan it's a dry fly. the abdomen is deerhair and thread and coated with flexement. I think it's the flexament that floats it though as the deerhair is slightly compressed . The wings are also boyant and would float by themselves. I tied a bunch of these last year when I imported some rainbows and found we had a caddis hatch here in La. and the bows new what to do with them. We caught just as many warmwater fish as we did trout so wether or not I can get trout this year I'm adding these to my fall tying list.

Thats great! What is the wing material?

The wing material is home made bug skin. David Martin taught me how to make it using a single ply of Kleenex tissue and flexament. Once it's dry you can color it with markers . It's very durable and has a ton of other uses.

Thanks Floyd .This would make a good swap pattern and October is a good month for Caddis is it not?
