FTOTY Medal Fund raiser Custom Rod!

Recommended Posts

As many of you know Will (Smalliehunter) has been doing the FTOTY for you guys for a number of years now. The past couple years he has given out some VERY nice FTOTY medals to the winners of each category. As you can see from this post http://www.flytyingforum.com/index.php?showtopic=54679 those medals Will pays for out of his own pocket simply as something special for the members here and it costs him $800 to do the medals.

So with that said here's you chance to give back to FTF which you have enjoyed being a part of, and help to support the FTOTY so that we can continue to do it each year. As many of you know we don't ask for donations here because we don;t want to take peoples money without something worth while in return. So this is what I am going to do.

I am going to "raffle off" a very nice brand new custom fly rod. What I will do is to do this in a Auction style format. We will use this post and I will run the Auction starting right now, and it will end on October 7th at 9PM EST(that's 1 week) The way it is going to work is like this. We are starting the first bid at $50. To bid on the rod all you have to do is to reply to this post with a dollar amount that is higher than the current bid and you will be the current high bidder on the rod. Whoever has the highest bid at 9pm EST Oct 7th will be the winner of the new custom fly rod. And the winner will send the money via Paypal directly to Will so all the proceeds go to support the medals for this years FTOTY contest winners.

Here is the rod.

It is a perfect small stream trout rod. Its a 6' 2wt 4pc nice crisp action blank (think small dries). The reel seat is a very nice piece of hand turned wood, the reel seat hardware is high polish Nickle Silver hardware. The really special thing is the grip. The grip is a very custom hand turned grip which features ELK stage antler pieces as the front and rear of the grip, then exotic cork in the center with burnt cork trim accents, as you can tell from the pictures it is a very cool grip! The rest of the rod such as colors for the wraps, color for trim bands, and even a Inscription with the winners name will be all chosen by whoever wins the rod, so it can be any color combo you would like.

Remember October 7th 9PM EST is the close of this so bid as often or as little/much as you would like to try to win this rod to help support this website & the FTOTY.

Starting bid - $50

Well just to sweeten the rod even more...Bob (OSD) just donated this Natural Agate stripping guide to the rod. For those that don;t know, this is a $30 Agate guide and the top of the line in stripping guides! So this rod is getting better all the time. Someone (Maybe Paul) is gonna get a sweet little custom rod with top of the line parts rod for the cost of a off the rack rod.

First off, want to thank Steve for doing this auction on his own idea. Didn't even say a word to me and did this all on his own. Also want to thank everyone that has bid on this rod so far, I am completely overwhelmed and speechless. Just when I am at a point where I don't know what I am going to do with these sites that are becoming more expensive to run than my wallet can afford this community steps up and relieves some of that pressure. Thanks again to all, I truly appreciate it!

Auction is now closed and saltydog is the winner with the high bid of $325.

Let me say thank you on behalf of all of us here at FTF to all those that bid in this auction. Your support of the FTOTY is very much appreciated.

Saltydog I will get a hold of you in the next day or so to give you Will's address for payment and also to talk to you about what color wraps and such you want on the rod.

Thanks again everyone.

Steve
