Peddler 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2010 Can anyone suggest material to use for crane fly legs? Knotted pheasant tail fibers have been suggested but my fingers just ain't built right for doing that! I have been using deer hair but that stuff just doesn't last for fishing. I'm looking for something somewhat life-like that is durable. Thanks!
SullyTM 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2010 Peddler, Use Moose Mane hairs. Coat with a clear varnish...Michael's sells a Dura Clear varnish. It'll make the hair more durable. Hope this helps.
Bryan Wright 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2010 Buy pheasant tail pre knotted you can get a whole feather where every fiber is double knotted and still on the quil.
Bryan Wright 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2010 Look here for the pheasant tail: http://www.troutcatchers.co.uk/acatalog/fl...g_pheasant.html it is down the page a bit but you will see it. I don't know where to get it in the US.
buggybob 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2010 Use tweezers to handle the feather and tie the knots. A lot easier.
