Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2004 This is very important and i hope all members that read this will help out by taking part of it. After reading the post by Russ(WYknot) the other day about his son Andy going overseas to serve and the fact that he said there are many of his buddys in his unit that are fly tyers/fly fisherman it got me to thinking of a way that we here at home might be able to show our thanks to them. I proposed an idea to Russ and the other mods that we get everyone here that is interested to tie one of their best flies and then hook/tape it inside i Christmas card with maybe a few words written in the card to say Thank you to the soldier that may get it and let them know we appreciate what they are doing and they are being thought of this holiday season. Russ was kind enough to be a huge help with this and asured me if i can get the cards to him then he will make sure that they get to his son Andy in theater and Andy will pass them out to all his fellow soldiers that are in his unit. To make it as easy as i can for Russ the way we will do this is i will have anyone that is going to take part send the card with a fly in it to me then once i know i have all the cards that are coming i will get them all together and box them up and ship the box to Russ. He can then get the cards to Andy who will take care of passing them out. I have spoke with Russ and as to make sure that the cards get to the soldiers by Christmas i will need to get the cards to him by NOV. 25th. So that means i will need to have the cards sent to me by lets say NOV 19th that way i can get them in one box and have them to Russ on time. If you plan on sending a "flycard" then please reply to this topic letting me know so that i know when i have all the cards and dont leave anyone out. Even if you are new to tying and think your flies are not that good looking, please remember this is not a contest this is simply a way to say thank you to somone that is helping to protect your way of life and its the thought that counts. It is my deepest hope that every member that reads this will agree to be a part of this. I also want to thank Russ and his son Andy for helping us to do this. Steve is absolutely right, having spent Christmas 1990 in the Saudi Arabian desert I assure you that every fly-card will be beautiful in the eyes of the recipient. Please remember that some of these soldiers are still pretty new at what they are doing, too.
