Moscow 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2011 Nice looking fly ff99! Until recently I've only used biots for legs, antenna, etc. but I like the look they give to the body. Moscow
Redneck Fly 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2011 Nice Fly :headbang: :headbang: Ive tried to tie using the biot for the body but i just cant get it. It keeps unraveling before i can lock it down with the tread.

It keeps unraveling before i can lock it down with the tread. I haven't used this technique, but most tiers put a little glue on the body shank before wrapping the biot. Then, if it comes loose, it would stay put. You might try that. Some use the tiniest amount of super glue or equivalent...........

I use a little bit of varnish on the thread as suggested and that seems to help. I also wet the biot before tying it in. That seems to make it a little more manageable and reduces break-off at the tie-in point.

boynabubble 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2011 Ditto to what Dustin (Mr. Vegas) suggested. I tie a lot of biot nymphs and dries, I lay down a small amount of urethane glue on the hook shank and hold the butt end of the biot with my hackle pliers to keep light pressure on while I wrap it forward. Gluing down the biot makes it much more durable. You might give turkey biots a try if goose biots give you trouble. They are about twice as long.
