Moscow 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2011 Several recent posts on hooks made me think again of some hooks i picked up in a yard sale several years ago. I was wondering if anyone can give me more info on them. They are all packaged in individual cellophane packages (stapled closed) and are in sets. All have flat ends where the eye normally is (sorry for the non-technical term), so I assume they should be snelled. Are they for fly tying or just some old bait hooks that should be recycled in the garage sale this spring? My guess is they are probably from the 70's. Mustads maybe? thanks, Moscow
perchjerker 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2011 These are ringed-eye streamer hooks. I will gladly take them if you want to get rid of them. perchjerker
Guest Report post Posted January 20, 2011 Moscow Some of those hooks have eyes but alot don't. They're called Blind Eye Hooks, you had to snell a loop on them to use them. You might want to post the pictures on the ClassicFlyTying.com site (part of FTF) and have the guys over there get a look at them. Just over a year ago I won an auction and in the box's of hooks were 3 OLD box's of Mustads with the flat space where the eye should be, I posted to find out what there were and I ended up selling them for $25 bucks a box, way more that I paid for the auction. I'd do alot more checking and get way more info. You might just have some hooks the guys who tie them are really looking for. Fatman
Moscow 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2011 Thanks fatman - I'll take a look over at ClassicFlyTying. Perkjerker - none of them have eyes, just a flatten area at the front. They would need to be snelled. Moscow

I already have something in mind :devil2: :devil2: I WOULD PAY FOR SOME TOO!! They look great for Salmon flies.
lykos33 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2011 Made in Korea...I don't think Mustad ever came from there but I could be wrong. Even if they are not Muistads, they could be a useful in some flytying situation. The only Blind Eye hooks I have seen didn't have flattened ends, kinda makes me think more along the lines of a hook for snelling. Again I could be wrong, thought I was once , but, I was mistaken... :hyst:
Moscow 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2011 I found out they are called 'flatted', a type of blind eye. Basically, cheap Korean knockoffs. Most look like they are for trout flies and streamers, nothing remotely 'classic salmon fly' or steelhead-like. But that said, I don't mind splitting them up and sending them out to you three: SamH, perchjecker and Flytyer14. PM me your addresses and I'll get them in the mail.
