jklett 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2011 Hi all, I haven't been on the forum for a while and one of the first things I've noticed was that folks are finally starting to suggest (up to)2x the hook gap for standard hackle collars. When did this happen? Everyone used to be very firm with the 1.5 times and would say that 2 times was too long. It's nice to see that people are accepting what was standard in the early days(for good reasons) but I was wondering what brought about the change of opinion? perchjerker 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2011 Perhaps some of us are quite familiar with the older literature where 2X was also recommended, and are speaking up. Just my best guess! aged sage

Bruce Derington 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2011 You guys are  Some of the things that have changed are the availability of a wide range of hooks that are not considered "standard'. If the fly cast well ( doesn't heli-copter), and lands correctly on the surface, I say roll with it
