In need of an opinion.

Recommended Posts

This is my second fly I have ever tied. I know I'm in need of a lot of work, but I don't think it came out to bad. Opinions please. dunno.gif

A great start. I haven't been tying long myself and I'm no expert. I'm sure there are others on the FTF that can give you some more tips as well.

Do you have a zoom on your camera, maybe give us a closer look?

Some rules I use for tying similar flies are

Tail - as long as hook shank (from top of bend to eye).

Hackle - Half as long as hook shank wrapped from the tail by the tip of the feather forward to the eye. This gives you longer tips towards the front.

I also try to even out the marabou for the tail feathers by hand before tying them in.

The best opinion you can get is that of a fish, cast it a few times and see what bites. smile.gif

One tip:

Looks like you trimmed your hackle to size...Don't do that. The hackle fibers have a natural taper which conveys the action and gives a fly a life-like appearance.

That fly looks like it is for show, but when you tie flies for fish always try to keep the natural taper of the material this goes for bucktail, hackle fibers, just about everything.

Nice fly
