NJ All Day 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2011 I agree with Mr. Utah just save your money up for the Regal! You could keep spending your money on cheap vises, or just save that money and buy a vise to last you 20+ years.

robow7 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2011 I really really like my Regal. I've used many other vises but this continues to be one of my very favorites.
Will K 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2011 When I was 12 or so, my parents had seen me mucking along with a cheap little vise that came in a kit I got in the 4th grade to start tying with... and bought me a Regal for my B-day. (yes, I have the coolest parents in the world...) I lived about 10 miles from the factory, so for a kid it was so cool. We went, and saw the machines and all, the guy showed us the reel they were making at the time, I remember he was super excited about the cork drag it had and the "clutch" it had to help slow a hard running fish if extra pressure was needed. I picked out my vice - at the time I think it was bronze pedastal or clamp, and ped. was what the guy who sort of mentored me in the local fly shop used, so ped it was. I'm 37 now and the vice is going strong! I can comfortably tie down to 24 or so and have done 3/0 on there as well - both slightly beyond the range they say to use for the original jaws.. but seems to work. Definately a bomb proof, rock solid peice of equipment you will have for a LONG time!

Gregg A 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2011 The only thing a vise does is hold your hook. The rest is just prefewrence and what you tie and what you can afford. Remember, you dont need an expensive vise to be successful. Do I need a Regal? Absolutly not, but I sure like it and it was worth the money.
