Matt24 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2011 Tied all these the yesterday, i don't ever tie with synthetics but man they go fast and look good when your done. most of these flies are about 5-7 1/2 inches long. Going to Michigan end of may when school gets out for 2 weeks on private lake that has a lot of fish in it. Lake is only fished by one other fisherman, and im the only guy that throws flys. This lake has a ton of bass and some big pike. One question if anyone has an answer for is, how do i get the pike to come out and eat when its 75+ degrees and they pike are hiding out because its so hot! any suggestions?? night fishing maybe? kelkay 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2011 Yes, night fishing would be good. Or you could fish first thing in the morning. Fish deep during the day where it is cool. If the lake is spring fed, find where that spring is feeding into the lake too. They will hang around the cooler water.
Matt24 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2011 Thanks Kelkay there are 2 small creeks ill have to look in to that
gaeronf 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2011 Well, if you want to get them down, you could try the tungsten scud bodies. They would be heavy, easily hid, and add character/shape to your fly. Just throwin' it out there.
Matt24 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2011 Don't have any scud bodies, gonna have to pick some up next time i'm at the shop

deeky 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2011 Yeah, nice flies. I particularly like flies 4 & 5, but they will certainly cast a little heavier than the synthetic flies. I would add - consider throwing a rattle into those big boys. Just one more trigger to grab a lethargic fish's attention. Â I envy your fishing opportunity. I haven't done much for private ponds (farm ponds around here), but I've got my eye on a couple for this summer. Â Deeky

agn54 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2011 Great looking flies. For the synthetics, how did you finish of the head? I assume you tied them hollow style and flipped them over, but did you then hold the fibers in place with your hand and add epoxy over the head to keep everything in place?
