rockworm 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2011 This is an odd idea I had- somewhat related to that game where you whisper something in someone's ear and they whisper to the next person and so on and so on and then you compare the beginning idea with the final idea. I would call it the Evolution Swap. It would work like this: first find a dozen tyers daft enough to participate. The first tyer (probably the swapmeister) invents a fly and sends the recipe (not the fly, just the recipe) to the second tyer. The second tyer changes one element of the recipe to create a new fly. (For example, he might change the hook or the body or the wing, or... You get the idea.) He sends his recipe to the next guy in line. And so on. Each participant sends a dozen of his particular variation to the swapmeister who mounts them in order from first to last so each participant gets an evolutionary series. Sort of like the picture we've all seen of the ape standing next to a slightly more erect apeman and so on, each a little more erect and taller until the last one is a man standing in a seersucker suit, carrying a suitcase. (Or did it go in the other direction?) As I said: just an odd idea for a swap. If you like it- run with it.
Sjo 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2011 I'm daft enough to participate in such a swap, if you take European tiers. Sjo
NJFlyMAn 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2011 I'm thinking maybe host a fly swap for people who never joined a swap. Have 12 tyers that never joined a swap or who are beginner fly tyers. This way they won't be afraid to join b/c of skill.. By joining the swap they get time on the vice tying 12 patterns of their choice.. And they will get back 12 other patterns with recipes. . Has anybody tried this kind of swap?
