ditz2 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2011 I just want you geeks to know that there are others watching this thread. I have tied up several patterns this winter including some 'Headstands' to chase some carp if I can find them. I have been fishing a 3 small creeks here in middle TN for a few years now and I have yet to even see a carp. I haven't seen many smallmouth either but I have caught a few. I hope this thread continues for a while and maybe some other 'geeks' will pipe up.

ikerajala 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2011 do you guys think these flies and tactics would work for tench?
tidewaterfly 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2011 Since I had no idea what a tench was, I looked it up! Sounds like a very similar fish to carp, so IMO it would be highly likely that they might work. But, I'm very curious why you ask, what I read says they're; found throughout Eurasia from Western Europe including the British Isles east into Asia as far as the Ob and Yenisei Rivers. It is also found in Lake Baikal.. You're apparently from Idaho, so what's the deal? :dunno:
ikerajala 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2011 tench are a big green carp with red eyes and small scales.the Idaho state record is around 3.5 pounds.they inhabit many lakes and streams (including lake pend orielle).I see them larger maybe.they school up in may/june to spawn.I grew up on a farm (in north Idaho)and our farm pond was full of them ,however I never tried fishing for them with a fly.they were great sport with a grasshopper as live bait.they are very near and dear to my heart like most ugly things.I think I will try to catch some on the fly this summer. thank you
bullship 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2011 i don't know anything about tench, but I finally managed to get out after some carp. i ended up going with a more realistic dragon nymph....It works too.
