ditz2 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2011 I like simple....floating spider of craft foam and bungie chord rubber legs in size 14 thru 8. I like yellow body best because I can see it. I use two layers of foam for high float and you can do a gurgler style or diver. To get it to dive you leave the top layer of foam extra long on the hook eye end and after you tie down the front end of the body leaving about a 1/16" open behind the eye, using a bodkin, punch a hole thru the foam and pull it down and over the hook eye and trim length as needed to make the spider dive. The best hook to use is a ring eye light wire 1x or 2x long. I also use CA between hook shank and bottom layer of foam and CA between foam layers of foam with the 2 legs crossed between the two layer of foam that are held with the CA as well. Thread 8/0 or 6/0 Tan Body Olive Or Tan dubbin Wing Bleached Coastal deer hair Trailing shuck: I skip this step. But use some Amber Z-lon. do you have a pic of this fly?
