Sources for Congo Hair?

The Fly Tyers Dungeon folks do not answer phone calls. Is there another supplier to non-commercial buyers who carries the product?

 

If not, is there a good substitute?

Rocco - I would suggest just ordering directly from the Fly Tying Dungeon website. He currently has a special on the Congo Hair (see link below). It may take a couple weeks to get the stuff, but his materials are always worth the wait. You will spend a LOT more for any of the alternates on the market.

I've seen the site but I generally do not buy in cyber space, especially new products with an outfit I don't know. Besides, I wanted to get more detail on the legging materials that they have on offer. The really small struff is intriguing. But there is nobaody home there -- probably gone fishing which is exactly what I would do in Montana.

Congo hair is a substitute for Enrico Puglisi's EP Fibers. EP fibers are available at most fly shops, but expect to pay at least 4X the price of Congo Hair. That is the trade-off. Pay for fly shop customer service or be patient and save money.

FTD May take a while to get in contact with you, and definately keep a copy of what you order, b/c a lot of the stuff isn't labeled, but it does come to you, they can be slow to get there, but I have ordered from them and have had no problems with them. Their stuff is great stuff and worth the wait.

Ive been lucky I guess in that I never seem to have the problems others have had in getting there orders in a timely fashion.That being said, I would still order from them even if I did have to wait a bit on delivery, their products are just that good! If you get the Christmas specials, you better be prepared to have your socks blown off with the quality AND the quantity of product. My wife actually asks me if I am going to order from them at Christmas now (she hates me spending money on fly tying) because of the deals.

You can't match his prices anywhere, anytime, anyway, but if you wait for him to contact you, you'll grow old and gray. Order from him; we all do. Try Doug Swisher's site. Send an email to "[email protected]" & Say "Sign me up". He'll send you the link, etc and email you a buletin of his specials. He must get some of his stock from the Dungeon, because he carries the same items as FTD, as well as other stuff.

I can almost promise you that he has not gone fishing. The dungeon is a one man band, one guys does all of the work from actually dying and packaging to answering the phone and taking orders. Leave a couple of messages or just keep trying to call and you'll get through I promise.

Doesn't he have a day job also, this is just a side business. Other than taking a long time to get materials out when he is swamped i have never heard a bad thing about his products. You typically will get more than you asked for buying through him.

As far as I know, and I talk to him fairly often getting orders for the shop and such, that is his full time gig. He has a much bigger customer base than most would think, he really is an international dealer and base for some wholesalers so yeah it may take a bit but he offers it to us lowly tiers at the same price so it's worth the wait to pay 25% of what Peglusi sells it for or many others for that matter.

I had never even heard of the "Dungeon" before reading this post and about dropped my laptop when I saw all the stuff this guys has and at the prices he is selling stuff at.

 

WOW - learn something new everyday.
